Types of Leave
The following leave types (medical, caregiver, parental, and military) are requested through Tilt.
Medical Leave
Medical leave is time off from work that an employee takes to address their own health needs. This can include recovering from an illness or injury, undergoing surgery, managing a chronic condition, or attending medical appointments and treatments.
If you miss five (5) or more consecutive work days due to your own health condition, you will be asked to apply for medical leave through our administrator, Tilt. Tilt will review your leave request, notify you of your eligibility for job-protected leave and wage replacement, and obtain supporting documentation when necessary.
Eligible CLEAR team members may apply for disability benefits for non-work-related injuries or illnesses. For those eligible team members, short-term (STD) and long-term disability (LTD) coverage is included at no cost starting on your 91st day of employment.
For Field Team Members:
There is a 7-day waiting period for STD benefits to begin. If approved, this waiting period can be unpaid or any eligible PTO/sick time can be requested.
Please review the time-off policies for more information on the People Hub.
For Corporate Team Members:
There is no waiting period for STD benefits to begin.

Caregiver leave is time off from work that an employee takes to care for a covered family member or loved one who is ill, injured, elderly, or needs ongoing support. This type of leave can be used for a range of responsibilities, such as attending medical appointments, managing treatments, assisting with daily activities, or providing emotional support.

Tilt will review your leave request, notify you of your eligiblity for job-protected leave and wage replacement, and obtain supporting documentation when necessary.

Anticipated/known leaves (i.e. elective surgery or parental): Contact Tilt as soon as they know their anticipated date of disability (i.e. date of surgery or expected due date), even if it is several months out.
Team members are required to provide at least 3 months written notice via email to their manager and the People Team before the anticipated leave start date to ensure proper planning of benefits and work coverage.
Note: If a team member fails to contact Tilt at least 30 days in advance of their desired leave date, CLEAR may need to delay the start of paid leave benefits or decline their request, resulting in time off being unpaid.
Unexpected illness or accident: Contact Tilt to request leave after missing 5 consecutive days of work or as soon as they anticipate they will miss more than a week of work (whichever is sooner).
In the event the team member is unable to file their own claim, the People Team can do so on their behalf.
The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides eligible team members up to 12 weeks of unpaid family and medical leave (or up to 26 weeks of military caregiver leave to care for a covered service member with a serious injury or illness).
The 12-month period is determined using a “rolling” 12-month period, measured backward from the date that leave is requested. If you had previously used FMLA in the previous 12 months, it will subtract from the total amount that can be taken at the time of request.
Who is eligible for FMLA?
You are eligible for FMLA if you have worked for CLEAR for at least 12 months and have worked at least 1,250 hours over the past 12 months.
What type of leave is covered under FMLA?
Your own serious medical condition or that of a family member
Birth, adoption, or foster care placement
Military family care or a family member’s active military duty
Other important details
FMLA runs concurrently with CLEAR Parental and applicable statutory leaves, as well as eligible CLEAR and state disability.
FMLA can be taken continuously or intermittently.
Tilt tracks FMLA hours and entitlements. Team members should report all absences to Tilt.
FMLA leave is unpaid unless you’re eligible and approved for CLEAR disability or other applicable state programs.
Short-term Disability (STD) provides eligible team members up to 26 weeks of wage replacement due to a non-work related sickness or injury.
STD Eligibility Waiting Period: 90 days
Week 1 (days 0-6), the Elimination Period: Before STD benefits are payable, you must be continuously disabled for seven (7) days as determined by our administrator, Tilt. This is called the elimination period.
Field Hourly Team Members: You must use PTO or sick days to cover the elimination period, or this time will be unpaid.
Field Salaried & Corporate Team Members: After your STD claim is approved, CLEAR will continue to pay your salary during the elimination period, and using PTO is not permitted.
Weeks 2-8: 100% of your base earnings
Weeks 9-26: 50% of your base earnings

STD will exhaust after 26 weeks, at which point, if you are still considered disabled, you will need to apply for Long-Term Disability (LTD). LTD is administered through Unum.
If you work in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Washington, or any other state with paid statutory leave, you may be eligible for paid leave benefits through the state.

If you are paid hourly:
STD benefit payments, minus any applicable statutory offsets, will be paid on the normal bi-weekly pay schedule and reported on paystubs in the earnings section, under Disability/FML.
If you are salaried:
STD benefit payments, minus any applicable statutory offsets, will be paid on the normal bi-monthly pay schedule and reported on paystubs in the earnings section, under Disability/FML.

Maximum monthly benefit:
Field hourly team members (employed by Alclear LLC): $1,000.
Corporate team members (employed by Secure Identity LLC): $5,000.
LTD Elimination Period: 180 days
Termination of Benefits:
If you are out for 26 weeks or longer, your Medical, Dental, Vision coverage will end at the end of the month in which you reach the short-term disability maximum duration (26 weeks of being totally disabled). You may be eligible to continue coverage under COBRA and will receive a COBRA packet in the mail from our COBRA administrator, Optum Financial (formerly ConnectYourCare). This packet will contain instructions for enrolling in COBRA coverage and paying your premiums.
If you are approved for long-term disability, you may also qualify for waiver of premium for life insurance. If approved, your life insurance will continue while you are out on long-term disability. If your waiver of premium claim is denied by Unum, you will have the option to convert your life insurance coverage to an individual policy.
LTD benefits are paid directly to you by Unum. Your first payment will be a physical check sent in the mail. After that, you will have the option to enroll in direct deposit.
